Nampa: 30 Is Too Old For Tubing

Sledding with an inner tube

A Canyon County man is in the hospital after a brutal sledding accident yesterday near the Pickles Butte landfill outside of Nampa.

The 30 year old man was tube sledding with a friend and apparently hit a jump while tubing down a ravine and was thrown up to 20 feet from the tube. He may have landed on his back, and the 911 caller described the man as bleeding from the mouth.

The St. Alphonsus LifeFlight helicopter was at the scene within minutes and paramedics at the scene were able to load the victim into the chopper after which he was transported to the Boise hospital. The man was conscious and talking.

So, what 30 year old slides down a snowy hill on an inner-tube? Even for a child that is the fastest and most dangerous way down a slick hill, and countless children are injured each year in similar accidents. We hope the victim in this accident makes a full recovery, but we also hope other adults will keep this incident in mind the next time someone offers them a tube at the top of some random snowy hill.

Follow-up: Injured Tuber Daniel Callsen slowly recovers from his multiple injuries from this incident. Callsen said was doing a "test run" to show a friend's children that it was safe to sled on the hill.

Barack Obama to Visit Boise

Skinny Obama in the Senate

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is scheduled to visit Boise this weekend as part of a campaign tour.

The event will no doubt be a total charlie-foxtrot, although the time and location of the visit has not yet been released.

If this blue rally event is anything like some of the Clinton campaign stop-offs, then Boiseans can expect total chaos and mayhem at the scene. It may be worth it, however, to get a glimpse of (and maybe even a handshake from) the first non-white man to ever get this close to being president of the United States of America.

Bank Robber Evades Boise Cops, Gets Away Clean

Boise Bank Robbery Suspect Criminal

A Nampa man who successfully robbed the Bank of the Cascades at 801 South Vista Avenue at about 11:00 a.m. yesterday is on the loose after dodging law enforcement officers after a short chase.

Boise cops are generally so numerous and aggressive that few criminals manage to escape after being pursued, but Kelvin Joseph Boyd, the 26 year old suspect in this robbery, evaded police officers by running on foot from his vehicle near Roosevelt and St. Andrews streets just after committing the crime.

Police officers followed footprints from the abandoned vehicle to a residence on Zola Ave near Malad Street, but a few hours later it was determined that Boyd was not in the home.

Boise Criminal Trivia Bonus: In 1997 Kelvin Boyd worked as a dish washer at Peter Schott's restaurant in the Idanha Building in downtown Boise where he earned the nickname "Special-K" from coworkers.
