It's The Law: Shovel That Snow!
Feb 1, 2008 - 7:12
BOISE - Better clear your sidewalk, because the City of Boise Municipal Code says you have to get that snow (or any other obstructions) off your section of sidewalk by 9:00 a.m. to avoid being fined up to $1,000.
It's not like the cops are going to come knocking on your door regarding this law, but some of us might be concerned about malicious neighbors or troublemakers using this as an excuse to harass residents.
The law says: Every owner of any building or vacant lot ... in this City shall during the time snow shall be on the ground by 9:00 A.M. every morning, when necessary, clear the sidewalks and gutters in front of his property from snow, and keep conveniently free therefrom during the day, so as to allow citizens to use the sidewalks in an easy, safe and commodious manner, and every person neglecting or refusing to comply with the provisions of this Section shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor.
So, keep those sidewalks clear and don't forget to pull this one out if you really want to piss off your lazy neighbor! But please, Boiseans, keep it safe this winter--shoveling snow is hard work and can cause injury or aggravate existing health conditions.
