Georgia Man Dies in Late Night Twin Falls Base Jump
Feb 9, 2008 - 18:31
Richard L Heaton III was visiting Twin Falls earlier this week to base jump from the Perrine Bridge, a popular attraction for base jumping, but unfortunately he did not manage to make it out of the canyon alive.
Heaton last spoke with his girlfriend just before midnight Wednesday, when he told her he was just about to walk out and perform the jump from the bridge. He said weather conditions were good, but officials suspect he may have misjudged the wind-chill at the bottom of the canyon, where the mid-20 degree temperature may have felt much colder with a strong wind near the water.
Heaton was found by members of the Twin Falls County Search & Rescue Team on Friday, and it was determined that his jump was successful, but he was unable to return to the top for unknown reasons.
