Boise, Coeur d'Alene Among Most Secure US Cities
Dec 15, 2007 - 7:18
Coming in a close second in Sperling's "Best Places" report, Boise has been named one of the most secure cities in the United States.
The report ranks cities and towns based on crime stats, extreme weather history, risk of natural disaster, environmental hazards, terrorism threats, air quality, life expectancy, and unemployment rates. 379 U.S. metro areas were rated, categorized by population. Boise is ranked second best among the larger (greater than 500,000) metropolitan areas, just after San Jose, Calif.
Boise may have just missed the number one position in this study due to the terrible winter air quality. Inversions each winter bring air quality to dangerous levels in the Treasure Valley.
Idaho also has a high-ranking small town on the list of best places. Coeur d'Alene is number 18 among towns with fewer than 150,000 residents. Go Idaho!
