Beer Drinking Citizen Foils Robbery
Feb 7, 2008 - 8:03
Cheers to you, Mr. Beer Drinker from Boise!
Apparently a would-be robber was hit over the head with a six-pack of beer when he tried robbing a convenience store in Boise yesterday. The blow to the head caused the man to fall to the ground after he had shoved the store clerk aside and began stealing money from the register.
A 29 year-old off-duty correction officer who was trying to buy some beer delivered the knockout blow, then with the help of another good Samaritan, pinned the suspect to the ground until police arrived.
James Edward Bridges, 46, of Boise, is now in custody at the Ada County Jail on charges of robbery and battery on an officer. The latter charge was due to Bridges kicking and fighting while being taken into custody.
BPD officers do not recommend that any citizen risk his or her safety in a robbery situation, but they are pleased with the results of yesterday's good citizen crime stoppage.
